A tribute to football shirts

For KNVB, with Wefilm Concepts

How do you bring a tribute to Dutch football? Well, by showing what every club is proud of: their colors.

This year the Dutch Football Federation (KNVB) celebrated the 130th anniversary of amateur football in The Netherlands. With almost 3.000 clubs and over 626.000 matches every week, the Dutch football landscape is truly unique.

If we really want to bring a tribute to all amateur football players, we should use something that every player is most proud of: his or her club colors. More specifically their shirt, their icon. It’s the first question when you head for an opponent you’ve never played before: “what shirt do they play?”

However, if you want to do it seriously, you need to have a serious amount of shirts. More specifically, the biggest collection the world has ever seen. And that’s what we did. The Dutch Football Federation bravely started to collect all shirts. Not by simply asking the clubs, but by swapping shirts. Therefore, the KNVB developed a collectors item shirt with all designs of all amateur shirts in it. Even national coach Ronald Koeman changed shirt with his first amateur club.

At this moment the KNVB owns the biggest collection of football shirts in the world that will be exhibited on their campus.
